Writing
In Room 2 this term we are learning to:
  • Write poetry, prose, and descriptive writing about ourselves, our family and about the seasons.

  • Make our writing interesting by including precise nouns, interesting adjectives and verbs.

  • Use similes and onomatopoeia to enhance our writing.
  • Use simple, compound and complex sentences.
  • Edit our work to improve it.

Spelling
On Monday of each week the children receive a list of spelling words that are generally focused around a spelling rule. Please help your child to practice their list words each night. They are tested on their list words each Friday. In class support for the focus spelling rule is also covered each week.

Maths 
This term we are looking at Statistics and Number Knowledge. In Statistics we are learning how to pose questions, collect data using tally charts, display data using pictographs, bar charts, pie charts or stem and leaf graphs. We are also learning how to interpret our own and others' data and make sensible statements about the data we are analysing.

For Number
Knowledge we are learning to:    

 

  •  Identify whole numbers and the numbers that come one, ten, and a hundred before or after a number.
  • Order whole numbers.
  • Identify number of tens or hundreds in numbers.
  • Identify the number of ones, tens, hundreds or thousands in numbers.
  • Recall basic addition and subtraction facts to 10, 20, 50 and 100.
  • Identify names of fractions and order unit fractions.

  

Topic: Our Community

 

 In term one we are studying Our Community. We are looking at how Pt Chevalier has changed over time. We are learning to:

  • Identify places in the community using map reading skills.
  • recognise and explain the significance of at least 3 buildings in the local area.
  • Explain how streets and significant places got their names.
  • Explain how the area has changed over time using different resources from different periods in history.
  • Compare the living conditions of Pt Chevalier community now and then.
