Term 2

In Term 2 we are going to be busy learning to be scientists.  We will be learning to observe things and record what we see.  We will be thinking about dinosaurs and will visit the Auckland Muesum to learn more about what they looked like and what happened to them.  This trip will be in Week 4 (starts on 14 May), on Tuesday or Thursday.  The teachers will send home more information early in Term 2.  The school office will send home a Term Costs slip which includes this trip.

We will also be preparing for the whole school Cross Country event which will also be held in Week 4.  This is held at Coyle Park so we will need lots of parents to help us walk there and back.  We will do lots of running at school so please help us by ensuring your children wear suitable shoes to school!

Week 4 will finish off with the fantastic PTA Book Fair on Friday and Saturday.  At school assembly on Friday at 9am we will be having a book character parade.  The teachers and children will parade around the auditorium in their book character costumes and you are welcome to come and watch.  I wonder what everyone will wear?

Are you a parent of a new entrant or is your child starting school this term?  Please come to the new entrant coffeee morning on Wednesday, 28 May at 9am in the staffroom.  Jeanine (the Pikopiko Team Leader) will lead this in Term 2 and she will be able to answer your questions about what happens when your child starts school.  Pre-schoolers are able to come also.  Please come along!

Teacher Only Day - This will follow Queen's Birthday weekend.  There will be no school for children on Tuesday 5 June.

Reporting to parents will take place in Term 2.  Your children will led a learning conference with you in Week 8 ( 14 June).  They will tell you how their learning is going and what they are learning to do.  We think you will be amazed and proud when you hear how confident and articulate your young children can be!  You will also recieve a written report at the end of the term.

Please keep an eye on the school newsletter as there is lots of very helpful information and updates on our building project.

Please note there will not be a Team Assembly in Week 1 as it is a short week due to ANZAC Day falling on Wednesday!

Term 1
This term we are going to visit the Arataki Visitor Centre in the Waitakere Ranges to participate in the Sensational Senses programme.  Throughout the term we will also be having swimming lessons at school, children will need their togs, towel, goggles and a bag every day for two weeks.  Please ask the class teacher when lessons for your class start.  The school picnic is on Wednesday 15 February at 5.30 on the school field and we hope to see you there!

School Lunches - please remember children can order a sausage for lunch on Thursdays.  It costs $2 and is ordered in the classroom.  This is a great PTA fundraiser!

The School Day -  we start at 8.50am and the day ends at 3pm.  Please make sure your child has their book bag at school each day.

The School Newsletter - every Friday we publish a weekly newsletter which is emailed out to parents or a copy is available, please let the office know if you require one.  The newsletter has lots of very helpful information about school events and so we hope you enjoy reading it every week.

Parent Help - in class support from parents is welcomed when it is required.  Please see the class teacher as class needs vary and it may not be necessary.  All classes do have reading books that need to be returned to the book room and this is greatly appreciated by teachers!  Please ask the teacher for more information if you can help out with this.  Thank you, but parent help is not needed in our Reception classes.

Term Costs - a note will be sent home with the costs for swimming and the visit to Arataki.
