Writing
TERM ONE 2012
Writing
In Writing in Term 1, we are learning to write recounts. Children will be using plans to scaffold their writing.
Recounts are written in the past tense and need to include:
A title
Who it is about
When it is set
Where it is set
What happened, using time order words to sequence events: First... Next... Then... Finally...
How the writer felt about the events
What can you do to help your child?
You can help your child by asking them to sequence events that happen with you at home or to them in school. Try asking them:
What happened? Can you describe it using interesting adjectives?
Where is the recount set? How do you know?
Who was there?
When did it happen?
What happened first/next/last?
What happened in the end?
Can your child sequence the events? If not, help them by sequencing daily activities,
"First we wake up, then we get dressed, next we eat breakfast and finally we brush our teeth."
Encourage your child to use interesting words and not to repeat the same word over and over
Punctuation
Proper punctuation makes your writing easier to read. Try adding punctuation to the following sentences.
