Kapa Haka

Tēna Koutou katoa

Kia ora e te whānau,

At Point Chevalier School we have three Kapa Haka Teams.

The main Kapa Haka group is called “Te Kapa o te Rangi Mata Rau”. The word “Kapa” means Team or group, “Haka” means to dance or sing. “Te Rangi Mata Rau” is the Māori word for Point Chevalier. This group is made up of Year 5–6 students who practice every Friday afternoon.

Pipi Paopao (The “Little Ducklings”) Kapa Haka group are made up of Year 1–4 students who practice every Friday at 12:40pm after lunch eating.

Mana Ake is a group of our senior students who have excelled in Kapa Haka. Their most recent achievement has been writing and bringing to life our very own Rangi Matarau Mana Ake haka.

Our Kapa Haka teams have performed at Selwyn Village, Corbans Estate Arts Festival and the Albert-Eden Primary Schools Festival.

Kapa Haka is a fantastic avenue for all students at Point Chevalier School to express and showcase their heritage and cultural identity through song and dance. Working alongside me to support these tamariki is Miss P.

Ngā mihi nui rawa ki ngā whānau katoa o te kura nei.

Nāku noa,

Matua Ngārino
